Lettuce LEsson Plan
Prior to planting, students are typically introduced to the species they will be planting. In this case, a Power Point presentation was used to teach students about the taxonomy of lettuce, its growing requirements, and its health benefits to humans.
Although this lesson may not fit into traditional schools as is, it could easily be adjusted and used as a lesson about macromolecules, water, soil, nutrition, taxonomy, or photosynthesis. Once adjusted, this lesson could accompany a fifteen- to thirty-minute lettuce planting session in the school's garden or in pots for students to take home. In my experience, planting leaves an impression on students and could be paired with content to facilitate learning.
